From Crisis to Connection: Jessica, Matt and Steve - Peaceful co-parenting after divorce - Episode 62

from crisis to connection podcast Jul 06, 2020

I continue my interview with Jessica, Matt, and Steve from the podcast, "Husband in-law", where they get specific about how they've created a peaceful post-divorce co-parenting relationship. They are all committed to showing up in this co-parenting relationship to put their daughter first by building respectful relationships with each other.

Some of the areas we cover in this episode include:

- How to slow down before becoming reactive when the other parent does something you don't understand.

- Why communication is key

- The importance of extending trust to each other

- How to stay respectful

- Replacing blame and judgment with understanding

- Speaking to each other instead of speaking through your kid

- Staying proactive in your co-parenting relationship.

Bio:  Steve and Jessica were happily married for 7 years until Steve came out as being gay which inevitably ended in divorce. Now, Matt and Jessica have been happily married for 6 years.  Now the three of them have a co-parenting relationship and friendship that, by most standards, would be considered atypical. Sharing stories of love, marriage, children, divorce, the struggles of religious norms, homosexuality, and trying to be our best selves, they hold nothing back and share what most people are scared to talk about. Listen in as they take you on this journey of learning how to love and accept themselves enough to love and accept others for who they are during this experience called “Life”.
